Implementation of New Category | CPT Codes for Barostim

  • Article

As of Jan. 1, 2026, new Category I Current Procedural Terminology (CPT) codes for the Barostim procedure are effective. These newly assigned CPT codes replace the Category III codes that were previously used for Barostim. The American Medical Association (AMA) CPT® Editorial Panel accepted the new Category I CPT codes for Barostim based on increased utilization of Barostim therapy and the strong evidence supporting its clinical outcomes.

Facilities and physicians performing the Barostim procedure should begin utilizing the new Category I codes as of the effective date. Please refer to the table below for the new codes.
